Image is not 300dpi

DPI is an abitrary setting. The real concern is the total number of pixels. Divide the pixels wide by the desired dpi (usually 300dpi for high quality printing) to get the width in inches. Divide the height by the desired dpi to get the height in inches. An image that is 3600 x 2400 pixels is 12" x 8" @ 300dpi; 24" x 16" @ 150dpi.

If the image's dpi is set to a low number or defaults to a low number, such as 72dpi, the image will appear very large in a program such as Pagemaker or Quark. You may simply resize the image in your page-make-up program to 24% or you may open the image in Photoshop; select "Image Size..." under the "Image" menu; deselect "Resample Image"; then simply set the resolution to match your printing process.

The Image is very large

Image is wrong file format

Different image formats are used for different purposes. JPEG was specifically developed for photo-realistic images; GIF is ideal for solid-color line-art images; EPS is an ideal format for illustrations or for complex pages.

The vast majority of images on Acclaim Images are in the JPEG format. To convert to a different image format Adobe Photoshop is recommended.

Creating color separations and adding unsharp masking (USM) are matters best left to experienced professionals. A full-service printer or pre-press shop will prepare image files specifically for your printing process.

Image quality is poor

If you come across an image purchased at Acclaim Images that is not publication quality, please send an email including the image number and what you feel is wrong with the image.
